Join us for a night of song, stories, food and wine as we celebrate the opening of this year’s Noongar Country exhibition and announce our award winners.
When: Friday 27 May, 6:00pm – 8:00pm
Where: Bunbury Regional Art Gallery, Lower Gallery
There will be light refreshments and a licenced bar available.
This is a free event, and all are welcome. We encourage everyone to register to assist us with catering numbers.
The Noongar Country exhibition will be open to the public from Sat 28 May to Sun 21 August 2022.
The exhibition showcases work from established and emerging Indigenous artists residing on Noongar Boodja and highlights the many styles, stories and talents of the region. There are three awards:
The Alcoa Winner $8000 presented by Alcoa
Emerging Artist Winner $2000 presented by South West Development Commission
Viewers Choice Award $1500 presented by Umbrella Realty
The exhibition coincides with reconciliation week and NAIDOC Week and is an opportunity for all Australians to come together to celebrate the rich history, diverse culture, and achievement of all First Nation people.
Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! is the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Observance Committee theme for NAIDOC Week 2022. Noongar Country 2022 theme embraces this with Kaarla Koort-ak: Woonya, Moort, Boodja Hearts on Fire: Love, Family, Country.
Kaarla Koort-ak: Woonya, Moort, Boodja invites contemporary Aboriginal artists living on Noongar Boodja to explore themes which unite us as people. Things such as love, family and our love of boodja and how this relates to the past, present and future of our people.
Bunbury Regional Art Gallery would like to acknowledge the Wardandi Noongar people as the traditional custodians of the land we are situated on and pay our respects to the Elders past, present and emerging.
