Event description
A practical and personalised six-month training program for collecting organisations looking to further their professional practice.

About this Event

The Open the Doors Skills Development Program supports the ongoing advancement of knowledge and practice in museums, galleries, libraries, archives and other collecting organisations across Western Australia. It helps to strengthen professional, cultural and social networks and promote the sustainability of collecting organisations as valued commodities in the wider community.

The six-month program is aimed at people working and volunteering in regional cultural and creative collecting organisations and offers training in:

• recording information about your collections

• telling significant stories about your collection and community (Significance 2.0)

• digitisation of collections

• audience engagement and sharing collections.

The program is tailored around industry standards for collections management and best practice in digitisation. The training is designed to prepare organisations with the policies, procedures and skills required to use the online collections platform, Collections WA.

The program includes:

  • 2 x two-day workshops
  • a minimum of four telephone or video conference calls with AMaGA Western Australia staff
  • self evaluation surveys and practical activities to be completed within your organisation

Program Details

The next round of Open the Doors will be offered in the Goldfields region between August 2019 to January 2020.

Workshop 1 will be held at Kalgoorlie Town Hall on Monday 16 and Tuesday 17 September.

Workshop 2 will be held at the end of November at an appropriate location in the region (dates and location TBC)

Who can participate?

All collecting organisations located in the Goldfields region are encouraged to participate – this includes museums, historical societies, cultural keeping places, public art galleries, libraries, archives, language centres, RSLs, private collectors and schools. If you are not sure if this is relevant to you, please contact AMaGA Western Australia to discuss.

Future dates for other regions will be announced. Contact AMaGA Western Australia to register your interest.

Cost

The six month Open the Doors program has been subsidised by the Western Australian State Government. The costs for participating are:

This includes up to two attendees at each face-to-face workshop, a minimum of 4 telephone or video calls, 2 x two-day workshops in your region, extensive resources, and tailored support for your organisation.

You only need to register once for your organisation – additional registrations for the workshops may be purchased depending on registration numbers. We will discuss this with you in person.
