Event description

Description

'Open Archives, Open Minds':
Increasing the value of data through shared collections (Software Carpentry)

Your hosts for this meetup are Tyne Sumner (Research Community Coordinator from Research Platform Services, The University of Melbourne) and Alexis Tindall (Research Engagement Specialist, eResearch South Australia)

As part of the ongoing Digital Collections Collective, we are holding a special meetup aimed at exploring the current (and future) landscape of cross-archival data sharing.

We welcome all those interested in the research possibilities of data sharing and transfer across archives.

The meetup will feature a demonstration and discussion of the new 360 data sharing model developed out of the Cultures & Community Project: a sustainable and scalable API standard that allows data sharing between archives, institutions and research projects (in particular, the Tasmanian Archives and Heritage Office and The Prosecution Project). The meetup will also explore the value of APIs for HASS researchers, and introduce you to other common APIs like the TROVE API, and how you can reuse the C&C API by developing your own meta data schema.

Especially welcome are new members of the flourishing Omeka community who are interested in hearing about and discussing some of these ideas.

This meetup is being held on Thursday 31st August
2.00pm - 4.00pm
