OPAL TOWERS INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATOR

The first of our UUSC Academy special and informative lunches will be held on Thursday 23rd May. Come and hear Prof. Mark Hoffman, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at UNSW Sydney, report the findings and implications of his investigation!

Prof Hoffman was appointed by the State Government to independently report, with Prof John Carter and Stephen Foster, on the causes of failure of the high rise Opal Tower apartment building in Sydney’s Olympic Park on Christmas Eve 2018 and recommend changes to avoid such occurrences in the future. The incident and report received considerable attention from the public, politicians and the industry, with implications reaching far beyond this single building.

The report was released in two tranches and it is our great honour that Mark has agreed to be our first luncheon speaker for 2019. Some say the report raises more questions about the building industry in Australia than any other in our history; is your home affected? Are you safe? Is your building likely to have long term issues of maintenance costs? What ramifications will emerge from the Opal Tower incident?

Registrations close 5pm Tuesday 21st May, 2019
