Presenter Biography - Peter Melrose

Peter Melrose has worked in the child protection and family welfare sector since 1989 and has become a leading Australian Child and Behaviour Therapist. In addition to founding and operating Third Circle Counselling, the longest continuously operating private outreach therapy service in Australia, Peter also is a Co-Director of Extreme Behaviour Mechanics, an online training and skills development portal for professionals and families. Peter is a regular speaker at national and international child and family welfare and child protection conferences, and has written a number of journal articles on topics ranging from child and family therapeutic approaches, through to working respectfully with clients and children and young people in care. Peter appears regularly on television including Channel 9’s ‘Today Extra’ program broadcast nationally, and other media to discuss parenting and behavioural issues. Peter’s key focus has been on broad based inclusion of all children and young people with different needs. In addition, he believes it is critical to support the families and carers of these children.

Peter also works closely with families and children and also with professionals who work with children and their families. Peter specialises in working with children who have complex needs. Peter operates an outreach service which means that children can be observed and therapy can occur in a more naturalistic environment and this means that interventions are more targeted and meaningful for children, families and professionals.
