Event description
Go from 'good' to 'great' in your graduate and VAC program applications, in this workshop co-hosted by Teach For Australia and IEEE.

About this Event

Want to learn how to be a truly great applicant for STEM graduate and vacation programs? Come to this online applications workshop, chaired by Ricki Willis from Teach For Australia and co-hosted by IEEE.

Ricki studied mechanical engineering, before working as a maintenance engineer in an Aluminium smelter and then as a consultant working in building services and power stations. He now works as the WA Recruitment Manager for the notoriously selective graduate program offered by Teach For Australia. Having experienced both sides of the graduate recruitment experience, Ricki is keen to ensure you know what makes an applicant stand out to graduate and vacation recruitment teams.

In this interactive workshop, we'll cover:

  • What employers actually look for, and what that means for you.
  • Resumes and cover letters: how employers use them, what matters and how to approach them.
  • Technical knowledge: what you need to know, why you won't know everything and what to do when you don't know something.
  • Elevator pitches: how to answer "why do you want to work with us" and how to network confidently.
  • Online communication: How to ace group activities and how to communicate as naturally as possible in today's online world.

This event will count towards valuable PRES logbook hours.
