ONLINE - Introduction to Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (2-days)

This 2–day workshop will provide participants with an overview of DBT theory and principles as well as key DBT skills from each module (Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Emotion Regulation, Distress Tolerance). It will include a background on dialectics, including the central dialectic of behaviour change and acceptance principles. This workshop is suitable for mental health clinicians new to DBT as well as those with prior experience who are looking to refresh skills. The training is interactive, involving didactic learning augmented with role play, discussion and exercises.

On completion of this workshop participants will be able to:

  • Understand BPD from a DBT perspective including prevalence, causes and evidence for DBT
  • Understand DBT theory and principles, including behavioural theory, validation and dialectics
  • Apply the key DBT skills from each module (Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Emotion Regulation, Distress Tolerance)
  • Apply the key tools from DBT including diary cards and chain analyses

Presenters:

Zoe Gibbs is a Senior Clinical Psychologist at Spectrum where she provides DBT and DBT for complex trauma (DBT-PTSD) for adults, young people and their families. She’s been with Spectrum for several years now where she coordinates the DBT team. She has a particular interest in working with BPD in a youth population, having spent several years working at the Maudsley hospital in London where she specialised in DBT for adolescents, in addition to experience within the CYMHS sector in Victoria.

Sarah Wallace is a Senior Clinical Psychologist at Spectrum who brings years of experience from multiple practice settings, including; Outpatient community mental health, non-government organisations and private practice. She works in the Complex Care Service providing individual therapy and secondary consultation as well as in Spectrum’s Dialectical Behaviour Therapy clinic providing individual therapy, facilitating DBT skills groups, and providing adjunctive therapies for trauma and family work.

Who should attend? Mental health clinicians and other professionals working with people with personality disorders.

Cost: $500 (payable by credit card only).

Online: This workshop will be delivered online via zoom. A link will be sent a few days before the workshop.

Cancellation policy: If your circumstances change and you no longer can attend this event please log into your eventbrite account and cancel your ticket and request a refund no later than one (1) week prior to the event. A refund will not be issued if notification has not been received within this time frame and you will be required to pay for the event.
