Join us on Monday 24th October for this informative and thought provoking symposium, which will explore the issues of gender equity, safety, diversity and inclusivity in the workplace.

The symposium will comprise of the following speakers:

  • Dr Christina Malatzky is a Senior Lecturer & Academic Lead, Research at QUT’s School of Public Health and Social Work. She is also a Chief Investigator at QUT’s Centre for Justice. She is currently working on a range of research projects that explore gender dynamics within rural health workforces and systems; gender equality in STEMM hospital and health service settings; the role of place and belonging in retaining a rural health workforce; and rural health ethics.
  • Professor Ethan Scott is a Lab Head at UQ’s Queensland Brain Institute. His group uses the larval zebrafish model to characterise the cellular circuits and neural networks that mediate sensory perception, and the ways in which these systems are altered in models of autism. For the last decade, Ethan has also been active in the effort to make universities and professional societies more equitable, diverse, and inclusive.
  • Paralympian, Karni Liddell is a former world record holder who represented Australia at the Atlanta Paralympic Games in 1996 and captained the Number 1 team at the Sydney 2000 Games, returning from both Games with medals. Karni will share her own personal lens on the topics of equity and inclusiveness, and what a respectful and inclusive workplace looks like.
  • Breeanna Brock, as CEO of Brisbane Lions AFLW, has been able to successfully combine her passion for female football with her day job. Having been involved in the sports industry for over twenty years Breeanna has helped create a pathway for women and girls in an otherwise male dominated sport. She will talk about their journey to inclusivity.
