What happens when some of Melbourne's finest jazz improvisers and composers join forces with a full symphony orchestra?
Old, New, Borrowed and Blue explores the intersection of improvised and composed music. Leonard Bernstein's homage to New York, On the Town, will be heard alongside Fort Nest, a brand new work by Maddison Carter for improvisers and orchestra. Tchaikovsky's familiar Nutcracker Suite takes on a new life in Duke Ellington's jazz arrangement, with movements including The Peanut Brittle Brigade and Sugar Rum Cherry. The Victorian Youth Symphony Orchestra will joined by Maddison Carter (drums), Isaac Gunnoo (bass), Eugene Ball (trumpet), Julien Wilson (saxophone), Selene Messinis (piano) and Theo Carbo (guitar).
