About this Event

Old Government House Entry & Enquiring Minds Exhibition: Curator's Talk

Please note that due to COVID-19 restrictions each talk will be strictly limited to 10 people so bookings are recommended to avoid disappointment.

Join the Old Government House Curator, Anna Ridley, on the fourth Thursday of the month for a behind the scenes peek at Enquiring Minds.

Find out how Governor Brisbane’s star catalogue was created at the Parramatta Observatory over four years by his astronomers Charles Rumker and James Dunlop, using instruments featured in the exhibition.

Learn more about the explorations of John Oxley and Allan Cunningham when they ventured west beyond the Blue Mountains and how their routes were plotted onto modern maps to create an interactive display.

And discover the international connections Old Government House continues to have with the botanical collections in Kew Gardens, London, thanks to the work of Colonial Botanist, George Caley between 1800 and 1810.

Join our Curator as she takes you deeper into the lives of these early scientists and collectors, and explore in greater depth how their work contributed to the advancement of scientific knowledge around the world during the age of enquiry.

These talks will appeal to anyone with a thirst to learn more about the curatorial process that goes into creating an exhibition and the remarkable stories uncovered along the way.

A ticket to a Curator’s Talks also includes all day access to Old Government House and the Enquiring Minds exhibition so you can take your time to explore the property and exhibition before and after the talk. The tour will run for 45 minutes with 15 minutes for questions at the end.

Your exhibition ticket also grants full access to the house.
