Event description
Come along and enjoy a selection of Okinawa’s finest arts, crafts and performances at the Okinawa Soul Festival!

About this Event

Okinawa is the most southern Japanese prefecture. It is located as a group of over 150 islands, three hours flight from Tokyo. Okinawa is commonly know for its abundance of tropical climate, beaches and coral reefs.

Before becoming a Japanese prefecture in1879, all of the Okinawan islands were united under the Ryukyu Kingdom. The location and lifestyle of these islands gave the people to develop their own unique identity, culture and customs that had been carefully preserved and passed down through the generations.

Sydney Okinawan Club would like to invite you all to experience Okinawa with all the senses!

In the main auditorium, there will be live demonstrations and art performances by professional Okinawan Dancer and Sanshin (Okinawan Guitar) as well as local performers from Sydney Eisa Champroo (Okinawan Drum Dance), Sydney Sanshin Club and Karate.

In the foyer, there will be different stall vendors, who each represent the diverse and unique nature of a range of celebrated Okinawan arts, crafts and souvenirs.

The schedule for the day is in development and will be as follows:

2:30 pm - Doors open

3:00 pm. - Performances begin

3:50 pm. - Intermission

4:05 pm - Performances resume

5:00 pm. - End of Performances

This will bean exciting event and a great opportunity to introduce guests to the traditions which make up the heart and soul of Okinawan culture.
