Carclew’s Explore Arts school holiday program is here and we are so excited to announce that October brings THE BEST OF EXPLORE ARTS.

Our team of professional artists present a broad range of inspiring, hands-on experiences for 5-17 year olds that will nurture their inner-artist and allow them to try out new techniques and make new friends. Full program with full day and half-day creative activities below!

Full day workshops | $85 / $65 conc | 9am - 5pm

Full day excursion | $95 / $75 conc | 9am - 5pm

Half day workshops | $55 / $45 conc |

Morning 9am-12:45pm | Afternoon 1:30-5pm


Tuesday 2 October

SET IN MOTION: STOP MOTION ANIMATION | Ages: 912
Create your own mouldable characters and bring them to life with claymation techniques. Design and direct your own Lego "Brick Film" Animation. The finished videos will be shown on the big screen and then uploaded to YouTube.

Wednesday 3 October

LIFE AT 25 FRAMES PER SECOND: EXCURSION TO ANIFEX | Ages: 1317
Join us on an inspirational behind the scenes tour of the ANIFEX facilities and studio space. Learn about stop motion, simple lighting and camera set up from the experts then create your own cut out animation and clay characters for a mini group animation project.

2-in-1 : Book half or full day
CELLOGRAPH: AEROSOL ART | Ages: 5-8 (AM) Ages: 9-12 (PM)
Explore aerosol art creative techniques including can control, spray can design tricks and effects with mentor graffiti artist. You’ll be working outdoors to design and create a graffiti work as a group, then a solo piece to take home.

FLORA AND FAUNA: PRINTMAKING | Ages: 9-12 (AM) Ages: 5-8 (PM)
Take inspiration from native plants and animals to create your very own collection of prints. Learn lino cutting techniques on foam print sheets, to create a tile to transfer onto to a variety of materials. Create your own card or artwork to frame.

CRAZY CREATURE HEADWEAR: Sculpture | Ages: 58 (AM) Ages 912 (PM)
News Flash - A new creature has been discovered at Carclew. Does it have the horn of a unicorn? Scales of a fish? Teeth of a lion? You decide! We will be creating wearable, hangable masks inspired by a mixture of our favourite animals. Your crazy creatures will then be featured in an exhibition at the Carclew Dusk Markets.

MONSTER MAKING: ILLUSTRATION & PAPERCRAFT | Ages: 58 (PM) Ages 912 (AM)
Turn the monsters of your dreams into reality! Imagine the gruesome textures and anatomy of your monster, make a cardboard cut-out of them to stand on your desk and then create its story and sketch out in a mini zine while it looks on.

XXL ART: INSTALLATION, MURALS & PROPS | Ages: 712
Create huge artworks that fill a room, art you can play IN! Walk through and around art by working on large scale materials. Come make installations and props with Dave Court that will be displayed at the Dusk Arts Markets.

2 day workshop

ART OF ILLUSTRATION: BOOK ILLUSTRATION | Ages: 1017
Learn the ins and outs of book illustration from character development, storyboards to final illustrations. Use elements of illustration to create a visual language that extends and complements the words. Bring along a story, poem or song lyrics to illustrate.

Thursday 11 October

MAKE IT MOVE: MECHANICAL SCULPTURE | Ages: 712
Turn static objects into interactive and playful works of art. By experimenting with mechanisms such as cams, cranks, followers and levers, you will create your very own mechanical sculpture. Build your sculpture using cardboard and recycled materials, then bring it to life through movement.

*not an actual castle, we don’t have a moat… yet but we do have secret passages, so let's use our imagination.

Access info: We have one dedicated disabled space in the Carclew carpark. There is a ramp at the back door. The foyer, ballroom and toilets are wheelchair accessible but other areas of the building are not. There is level access to the side of the building and pathways around the garden area. Note that classes are a small in size with max. 16 participants with 2 teachers. Please contact Lilla to discuss your access needs on 8267 5111 on lberry@carclew.org.au

On the day
Participants will be supervised throughout the day, including breaks.

Please ensure your child brings their own labelled drink bottle, lunch, snack and hat, and is wearing sunscreen. It is a requirement for children to wear hats in order to play outside in the sun. Carclew provides drinking water.

It is essential that all children are dressed in clothes appropriate to the workshops. Carclew does not accept responsibility for any personal property left at workshops, damage to clothes, nor does it accept liability for any personal injury, unless such an injury is caused through negligence on the part of a Carclew employee.

Arrivals and Departures
Parents/guardians must sign their child/children in and out of each workshop. Carclew must be informed if someone else is collecting your child/children. Alternative collection arrangements must be confirmed prior to sign out.

FAQs

What's the refund policy?

All workshops must be paid for online at time of booking. Payments are made through Eventbrite, refunds and amendments can be made through your Eventbrite account up until 2 weeks prior to program starts. Concessions are available for participants with parents/guardians on a pension or health care card but this must be quoted at the time of booking. Please retain your receipt as you may be required to present it at workshop sign in

Can I update/transfer my registration information?

Yes through your Eventbrite account up until 2 weeks prior but there is a $10 admin fee payable
