Who are Robbie and Kobes?
Anyone who ever met Rob Johnston will tell you what a great man he was. Generous, kind, funny, the list goes on & on... In 2014 we were all shocked & devestated at his sudden passing due to an undiagnosed genetic condition known as OTC deficiency. We were however not overly surprised that his final act in this world was through the gift of organ donation. In honour of Rob, his wife Salliegh has become involved with Donate Life to raise awareness on the importance of organ & tissue donation while also helping other donor families in their journey.
In 2013 at the age of 3 Kobey Van Berlo was diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome a kidney disorder of which there is no known cause or cure (the blood by product Albumin plays an important role for most & in some cases the only option is a kidney transplant). Unfortunately despite a constant stream of medications throughout the years he has had little to no relief. There is very little if any research into Nephrotic Syndrome but his mum Lana is hoping to change that.
Having succesfully raised enough money from generous supporters via Everydayhero we have recently fully funded a new research project via Monash Hospital where Kobeys renal team are located. The aim now is to continue creating more research opportunities & hopefully more answers to this little know disorder.
Rob was Kobeys godfather and he took that role very seriously (even before Kobey was born). They were loud & mischevious together and we do this in honour & for them.
