Event description

Description

This tour is designed for persons with low vision. During the tour the artworks will be translated into alternative versions of themselves as they are experienced through the mediums of language and touch. The exhibition itself is concerned with the ability of objects to act as vessels for personal or collective memories and histories. The works examine our relationship with objects and how they trigger, preserve or distort our memories of the past, in both personal and historical contexts.

The participants will explore the works through touch, after this each artist will speak about the concept of the work and the processes involved in producing it. The tour will conclude with an optional interactive activity in which the participants will be invited to work with clay.

Those with low vision will be given first preference for bookings, however, the tour is open to anyone who wishes to attend. Regrettably, the venue is not wheelchair accessible.

This project is supported by the University of Melbourne Student Union Creative Arts Grant Program.

Works by Olga Bennett, Hannah Gartside, Ashley Perry and Katie Eva Ryan.
