An opportunity for young professionals to connect and learn with other industry leaders and carers on a national scale.

WHAT IS IT?

The Better Mentor Relationships events are held around the country through the Acorn Network – an organisation established to support young leaders in aged care. The events connect leaders to other young leaders and gives advice to assist in strengthening relationships essential for young professionals who wish to progress through to senior ranks in aged care.

The events are ideal for up and coming leaders who understand the importance of the mentoring relationship:

Tony Hagan - Executive Manager Philanthopy, VISability + CEO, Guide Dogs Foundation
Tony inspires people to do good things for others through being unique and trying different ideas, and uses his passion to understand the motivations for Philanthropy and matching these ideals with actions and initiatives that facilitate real social change. Tony has been involved in the not-for-profit sector for many years, including 18 years on the Board of the Association for the Blind WA (now VisAbility Ltd) – Guide Dogs WA, and now as Executive Manger – Philanthropy at VisAbility, in addition to fulfilling the role of CEO for The Guide Dog Foundation. He is a strong advocate and supporter of mentoring and connection to support us all in achieving our passions.


Nicky Howe_SouthCare IncNicky Howe - CEO, SouthCare Inc.
Nicky is passionate about building the capacity of individuals, organisations and the community. She is a leadership and management coach, with over 25 years senior management experience working in government and not-for-profit sectors in the areas of employment, education, welfare, health, aged care and community services. Nicky's work establishing the Engaging Young Leaders on Boards program positions her as a strong leader in mentoring young professionals in the aged and community care industry.


Maryam KhanMaryam Khan - Business Analyst, BaptistCare + Coordinator, Halal Food Bank

With over ten years of experience in Business Analysis and working with the community, Maryam Khan understands that strong, positive relationships lie at the heart of sustainable programs and initiatives.
As a young Australian-Pakistani Muslim, Maryam started off being a co-partner in setting up a grass roots organisation to bring young people together to reduce isolation and increase awareness and acceptance of their identity, as well as her own, as an Australian Muslim. She will share how mentoring and being mentored has helped shape the success of her latest initiative, Halal Food Bank; which co-ordinates relief efforts in her local community.

When starting her journey as a young leader in the ageing and caring industry, Samantha saw minimal young employees in the workforce and heard excuses, such as young people don’t want to work in here or it’s too 'unsexy' ... Through the Acorn Network she has established a strong network of organisations, mentors, and supporters who understand the importance of bringing young professionals into the aged care industry. With 5+ mentors in her corner she is keen to share her insights and learnings on mentoring with you.

Anyone with a passion for aged and community care careers is invited to attend - students, CEOs, entrepreneurs, consultants, carers. All ages and from all levels of leadership are welcome to attend and connect with our passionate and driven young leaders.

Is my ticket refundable?
Tickets are not refundable, but you can transfer your ticket into another person's name if circumstances require.

I work in mental/direct/other health career. Can I still attend?
Of course! The stories, insights or our leaders, plus the connections you make will be applicable to many different industries.
