Cross-Cultural Communication

We live in a world where products and ideas can more easily cross borders than at any other time in human history. At the same time, international trade has raised millions out of poverty and given rise to complex global supply chains that are woven into the fabric of modern business. In fact, the UN considers international trade to be a catalyst for positive change, for sustainable development, and the fight against discrimination on the minds of many in the international system. To take advantage of this, effective cross-cultural communication and negotiation skills are essential.

About the Speaker: Dr Sandy Y L Chong

A Harvard Alumnus, founder of Verity Consulting and VP-elect of the United Nations Association of Australia, Dr Chong is the winner of the 2017 Winner of the Stevie Awards for Women in Business, USA; 2015 Singapore Management Consultant of the Year Award, and 2016 Western Australia Multicultural Recognition Awards for Outstanding Individual Achievement, and Outstanding Volunteer Award.

With over 15 years of experience leading international growth projects regionally and globally, Sandy is known to be the change agent for her clients' overseas expansion. A strong advocate of international trade and economic empowerment as a way to peace and security, Sandy is also a believer of driving business performances with social impact. She has served as a mentor for businesses, including those from the AUSTRADE’s Women in Global Business, Bloom innovation incubator of the University of Western Australia (UWA) and CRIB Incubator Singapore. In 2017, Sandy was appointed the Global Ambassador for The Inspiring Rarebirds, an Australian enterprise that promotes female entrepreneurship.

Hong Kong Australia Business Association WA

The Hong Kong-Australia Business Association Limited (HKABA) WA Chapter:

Our Mission

  • To promote global co-operation, communication exchange and synergy among the Hong Kong business associations worldwide.

  • To provide a unified global voice that will enhance business and investment opportunities in and through Hong Kong.

The Federation of Hong Kong Business Associations Worldwide is a unique network of 41 Hong Kong Business Associations in 30 countries and regions with over 13,000 individual associates.

These Hong Kong Business Associations were started by overseas traders, buyers and professionals, who have strong business links to Hong Kong in their respective countries, for the purpose of networking and exchanging of business information and ideas. Each of these Associations has their own individual members who are top business people and SMEs in their home country. They are Hong Kong's closest allies and partners in the world market.

With the help of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) , these Associations formed the Federation of Hong Kong Business Associations Worldwide in November 2000. The Federation aims to achieve synergy among the global network of Hong Kong Business Associations. It provides an effective base for member associations to network and exchange information, thereby, generating business opportunities.
