Event description

Description

The Early Career Teacher Well-being Program has been designed to provide teachers with simple, effective, evidence-based strategies for promoting well-being. The program focuses on three areas: mental, physical and social well-being. It is based on positive psychology, yoga-mindfulness based cognitive therapy. Teaching is a demanding profession, and it is well documented that many teachers experience work-related stress. Gentle physical exercise (stretching) and focused attention meditation is a growing area of research surrounding teacher stress and well-being.

The information session will be held on the 24th July 4:30pm - 6pm.

Program details: Tuesday 4:15 to ~ 6:30pm; 31st July - 4th September 2018 Venue: North Lakes Community Centre

Each weekly session will include relevant theoretical and practical components. The restorative physical exercises are designed to relieve tension and decrease the stress response in the body.

The sessions will include both theoretical and practical components. You will be provided with afternoon tea and take home materials each week. You will also be given a free eye pillow to assist with your home practice and access to online materials (clips and audio tracks).

The program is part of a research study that aims to determine whether a teacher well-being program will have an impact on the level of stress, mindfulness, burnout and well-being of early career teachers (< 3 years of experience).

It is expected that your participation in this program will benefit you directly by providing you with an opportunity to learn basic meditation techniques and physical exercises to reduce the stress response in the body. The techniques you learn can be used as a foundation for your personal well-being routine. Previous studies have found that a short course in mindfulness-based approaches results in an improvement in stress levels, mood and cognitive functioning and memory. You do not need to have any prior experience in meditation or related health activities to participate in the program.

Please register your interest for the program and you will be emailed additional information prior to the information session.
