None a Week March
Event Information
About this Event
Its time to make a difference. We are asking for your voice and support on the International Women’s Day’s launch of Citizen Tasmania’s None a Week Campaign.
The domestic violence statistics are sobering:
• One woman every week is murdered by her current or former partner;
• One in four women experience some form of violence- whether it be physical, sexual, emotional or financial; and
• Younger women in the 18 to 24 age range experience significantly higher rates of physical and sexual violence than women in older age groups.
Family violence can effect anyone of any gender, and the impacts ripple out beyond those directly affected to touch all of us.
Citizen Tasmania’s None a Week campaign has the sole purpose of mobilizing as many resources and voices to raise awareness of this human rights violation.
This campaign is the Tasmanian response to these shocking national statistics. In Tasmania, 47% of assault occurrences are related to family and domestic violence, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
Citizen Tasmania will be part of the march from Parliament Lawns to the Goods Shed. The march will be led by 52 women of Hobart Nourish Women’s Choir, one to represent each woman lost per year.
Please join us in launching this crucial campaign in the week of International Women’s Day. As a community we can stand in solidarity and commit to changing this statistic.
This event is made possible by the generous support from the Tasmanian Community Fund, Derwent Club of Zonta, Macquarie Point Corporation, Australian International Youth Association, Tasmanian Law Enforcement Institute, Tasmanian Women's Legal Service, and the Longhouse.
