Director of Research at NIIM, Honorary Adjunct Assistant Professor, Bond University, Queensland, and Honorary Visiting Research Fellow at The University of Adelaide, South Australia. Karin received a Masters Degree in Chemistry and PhD in Human Molecular Genetics from the University of Heidelberg, Germany. With over 20 years' experience in medical and public health research, Karin’s research interest is in complementary and integrative medicine with a focus on nutritional health. Her current research projects encompass nutritional medicine, cardiovascular and brain health, chronic diseases and cancer.

Karin will be presenting on the advances and findings of the innovative NIIM Pathogen Blood Test.

Chronic Diseases, including chronic fatigue, chronic joint pain, myalgia, Lyme disease, arthritis and neurological diseases such as Motor Neuron Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, are accompanied by underlying inflammation, often triggered by systemic infection. The NIIM Pathogen Blood Test combines microscopy and genetic DNA analysis to identify any infectious causes for chronic disease.

To date, we have undertaken 400 blood tests of patients with Lyme-like conditions. Microscopy identifies infectious agents including bacterial, fungal, viral and parasitic infections. The majority of patients tested positive for systemic fungal/mould infections, which are further identified by DNA sequencing to the genus level. Identification of the underlying infection facilitates targeted treatment. The presentation will discuss selected cases.
