NEXUS Level 1 - A Foundation in Non-Technical Skills

NEXUS - Human Factors Training exposes candidates to the professional and personal teachings of Human Factors Training that have developed throughout the last 40 years, predominantly within the aviation industry. Human Factors training is an umbrella term for the study of people’s performance in their work and non-work environments with a primary focus to improve safety and efficiency by reducing and managing human error by individuals and organisations.

The NEXUS course aims to address the current training deficiency in Human Factors and Non-Technical Skills (NTS) that exist across Healthcare. These unique sessions will provide participants with the knowledge and skills which have become so deeply integrated into other industries and are fundamental to the leadership, teamwork and safety culture it creates.

The NEXUS Course consists of three levels comprising of three units each. Participants will complete a total of nine core units as a foundation for the continued development of Non-Technical Skills / Human Factors training in the healthcare environment.

Each unit and level is designed to build upon the next, gathering the skills and tools to participate in practical sessions which assist in the translation of concepts to the work environment. Participants will also be assessed via a theory exam after each level and a final decision-making exercise at the end.

NEXUS Level 1 - A Foundation in Non-Techincal Skills Training is a pre-requisite for attending level 2 (Skills Development) and level 2, a prerequisite for level 3 (NTS Practitioner). Three, Level 1 training sessions will be offered over the coming weeks. Level 2 training sessions will commence in late October 2018.
