Description

A National Science Week event

Be a field geologist for a day! A diversity of geological features is seen along the spectacular Newcastle seashore. Each site feeds into a better understanding of how Earth and local landscapes have evolved over the last 300 million years.

Geologists will lead the group on a slow-paced 3 km walk along the Newcastle shoreline, from Nobbys Head to the Newcastle South, and will discuss numerous interesting geological features. Participants will be encouraged to make their own observations and interpret how environments have changed.

The fieldtrip will run for about 2 hours and participants can join or leave at any time. The route involves pathways, rock platforms, the beach and stairs, so moderate fitness is required. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Parking is very limited due to development work in the area.

Supported by the Inspiring Australia initiative and Hunter Innovation & Science Hub.
