New South Wales Lawyers Admission - A 2020 Virtual Celebration!

About this Event

The Amicus Curiae project is delighted to convene a panel of brilliant legal professionals to celebrate the admission of New South Wales lawyers in 2020.

An online celebration is very much in order to recognise this momentous milestone!

Meet the illustrious panel consisting of:

  • The Hon. Margaret Beazley AC QC - Her Excellency is the 39th Governor of New South Wales. Prior to her appointment as Governor, Her Excellency was the first woman to sit exclusively as a judge in the Federal Court of Australia and to be appointed as the President of the New South Wales Court of Appeal.
  • Stephen Scarlett OAM RFD - Mr Scarlett served as a Judge in the Federal Circuit Court of Australia, Senior Children’s Magistrate in the Children’s Court of New South Wales and Magistrate in the Local Court of New South Wales. Currently, Mr Scarlett is a barrister and an accredited mediator.
  • Greg Smith SC - Mr Smith served as former New South Wales Attorney General, Minister for Justice, Member for Epping and Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions. Currently, Mr Smith practices criminal law as a barrister and appears in environmental prosecutions, commissions of inquiry, disciplinary tribunals and inquests.
  • Professor Larissa Behrendt AC - Professor Behrendt is a Eualeyai/Kamillaroi woman and the Professor of Law and Director of Research at the Jumbunna Indigenous House of Learning at the University of Technology, Sydney. Professor Behrendt also serves as a Land Commissioner at the NSW Land and Environment Court and is the Alternate Chair of the Serious Offenders Review Board.

Former Justice of the High Court of Australia and human rights advocate, The Honorable Michael Kirby AC CMG, will also be giving a special message.

Join our online celebration which is open to all in the legal profession, including students, friends and family of those who have been or are to be admitted in 2020 'on the papers'.

Please note: closer to the date, all registered attendees will be sent a Microsoft Teams link to tune in to the live event.

We look forward to you joining for this special event.
