Wed. 14 December 2016, 9:30 am – 12:30 pm AEDT
Being a new manager is a tough gig!
Being a rookie manager can be daunting. New role, new responsibilities, and not enough time! Feeling stressed out? Check, check, check, and check!
At the New Manager Survival Guide workshop you will learn tips and techniques to ensure you survive the transition from high-performing team member to high-performing manager.
The Program is designed for anyone making the transition from technical expert and team member to team leader or manager, or anyone who has made the transition within the last two years:
Directors & Assistant Directors
Section Managers and Assistant Section Managers
Managers & Assistant Managers
Project Managers and Project Officers
Being a good manager
More than half of new managers get worse performance assessments than they did as individual team members. Why? Because technical expertise, and other factors that drive high individual performance, do not readily translate into leadership capabilities. Learn essential skills that will make you a good manager.
The authentic leader
Great leaders must deliver results, in an ethical way, and have the gift of persuasion, too. Persuasion doesn’t equal manipulation. It is about communicating, networking, and strategically managing your career. Being self-aware and adapting effectively to different, often demanding situations, is what differentiates the would-be and will-be leaders.
Putting it all together
You’ll experience a combination of:
whole group discussion
small group discussion/exercises
The group will remain small and will be capped at 20 participants and you will develop a plan of action to take back to work!
