**New Date** Analysis to Action with SenseMaker® - New York, NY (8 - 9 June...
Thu., 08/06/2017, 8:30 am – Fri., 09/06/2017, 4:30 pm GMT-04:00
Implemented a SenseMaker® project, and want to figure out how to make better use of the data?
Have you done training in SenseMaker® Design, and wonder how to make sense of it all?
This course is designed to take you through SenseMaker® data analysis and report generation, to developing insights for intervention design...
Many of you have sat through some form of SenseMaker® Design training, or are trying to start a new SenseMaker® project - we know that you will soon be grappling with the question of how you can work with, and make sense of the data that comes from a narrative-based enquiry. How do we work with dots within a triangle, and all the stories that sit behind them? We want to share some of the analytical tools we use, and our experience in interpreting the patterns generated within the triads, dyads and stones. Along with the mistakes and experience we’ve picked up in working with a wide variety of projects in recent years, we will show how we turn the dataset into a useful conversation piece, and use the insights to develop small-scale interventions.
What will I learn?
SenseMaker® analysis has evolved greatly in recent years, and can be conducted on a variety of tools - some of these are proprietary, and some third party. This session will provide you hands-on experience in a variety of tools - from the new SenseMaker® Analyst, to working with a Tableau workbook - we will also be providing examples where more statistically sophisticated tools such as SPSS and R are useful. Across the 2-days, we will also be discussing how the analysis can be folded into broader sense-making approaches, and how Cognitive Edge complex facilitation techniques can be folded in to facilitate dialogue with constituency groups or within the organisation/community to co-evolve findings and safe-to-fail interventions.
Elements of the course:
◦ Understanding the data structure of a SenseMaker® dataset
◦ Working with different analysis tools
◦ How to build an Emergent Pattern report from SenseMaker® data
◦ Emergent story theming
◦ Complex facilitation techniques for sense-making of data
◦ Safe-to-fail intervention design; and more…
NB: We will be working with ONE sample dataset in this class. If you have a dataset from an active or past project, we can discuss some of the learning points and who they can apply across multiple instances. However, given the time limitations, it will be difficult to work on multiple datasets and project streams.
Laurie Webster. Laurie has been involved in creating and synthesizing information for more than 30 years. Her research, analytical, and computing skills work well to aid decision makers’ goals. She creates action plans that can be implemented in the context of the organization and its financial realities, while aiming to achieve long-term benefits. She has served as a teacher, facilitator, and developer in the Cognitive Edge Education program. This has included the two-day workshops on SenseMaker® Foundations and Practitioner Foundations (formerly Accreditation); and the online courses on Signification Design and Introduction to SenseMaker® Environment. She continues to work with clients both independently and through CE.
Zhen Goh. Zhen has been involved in varied and multiple applications of Complexity thinking and the use of micro-narrative for development, policy, management, marketing and more. She contributes to managing the Asia-Pacific market, and has worked in multiple countries across Asia, Australia-New Zealand, Africa, and has project experience from the UK and the Americas. A Sociologist by training, she has conducted ethnographic and anthropological research, and published on the topics of Culture, Gender, Political Economy and Policy-making. Often describing her role in CE as that of being “a Dave translator”, she will be able to bring practical application to the high-level concepts discussed in our training.
What is SenseMaker®?
SenseMaker® is the only software and methodology licensed to use Cognitive Edge’s patented technique that encourages people to both share authentic experiences and then signify their perception of that experience. It prevents misinterpretation by (even well-intentioned) experts and allows the quantitative analysis of people’s authentic voice.
SenseMaker® provides a tool that gives equal voice to everyone without prejudice and while reducing researcher bias and as such has been used to:
• Understand people’s perspective on their world
• Improve employee engagement
• Develop co-created strategies and programmes in the international development world
• Explore consumers’ underlying attitudes to products and services – and identify opportunities to enrich customer loyalty
• Engage with citizens on complex policy issues
Cognitive Edge reserves the right to cancel or re-schedule the offered session. In the event of cancelation or rescheduling, a full refund of course fees will be processed within 10 business days of cancellation or rescheduling notice. Cancellations by registrants are only permitted with a minimum of 3 weeks notice ahead of course delivery date with refunds provided less a 10% processing fee.
