Changes to the MBS in March 2026 will open the door for additional Eligible Disabilities and provide patients with 20 Allied health rebate services for speech conditions. This is in addition to the FASD services that can already be provided by GPs.

In addition, understanding the eligibility for patients to access once off MBS rebates for Complex Neurodiversity allied health services with a management plan from a paediatrician or psychiatrist.

Supporting children with eligible disabilities, autism and ADHD is no longer just about clinical care—it’s about ensuring equitable access for families. As assessment pathways, chronic disease frameworks, and mental health structures evolve, understanding how neurodivergent care fits within current MBS rules has never been more important.

Presenters:

Dr April Armstrong is a UWA Graduate of 2008 and completed the six-year undergraduate program as a mature age student and single parent to three daughters. During her student years she provided mentorship to the newly developed post-graduate program, was employed by UWA as a tutor and lab demonstrator and worked as volunteer at the bariatric outpatient’s clinic at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, as well as aiding with fundraising for the Cancer Support program established by Haematologist Dr David Joske. She was nominated for the WA intern of the year in 2009. In 2010 after completing internship, she relocated to Adelaide to complete DRANZCOG training and undertake GP training in Clare. In 2013 she returned to WA moving to Kalgoorlie and opening Collins Street Surgery for which she won the WA Telstra Businesswomen of the year 2015 in the start-up category. This was the catalyst for starting financial literacy education for health professionals.

In 2015 the Business for Doctors group was established to assist Doctors better understand business and finances, and provide them with a means to financial security, this group has grown to support over 50,000 Doctors and 20,000 other health professionals and practice owners in Australia, New Zealand and the UK. April is passionate about the Business of Medicine, ensuring that excellence in patient care is the key outcome of all business decisions. She has published five versions of her MBS Education for General Practice which provides Doctors with compliance and coding education. April has co-authored and edited the book ‘Financial Literacy for Health Professionals which has gathered industry experts’ opinions. She supports and mentors students from the John Flynn Scholarship program and is an advocate for international medical graduates and simplifying their pathway to engagement in the Australian health care system.

April is the Founder and Director of Business for Doctors, BFD Education, BFD Imports, Grow Medical Group, and joint director and owner of BFD Finance.
