Event description

Description

The NEMA Cross-Sector Community of Practice is inviting organisations from the Disability, Mental Health, Aged Care and other community service sectors to attend a morning workshop: ‘Can Culture Drive the Market?’

As many organisations turn to the market based practices of the new environment, some are at risk of losing the culture and values of their heritage. The purpose of this workshop is to provide practical examples in which providers have maintained their mission and culture in the face of bureaucratic change. The workshop will explore the role values and culture play in a commercial environment, including:

  • How organisations can remain true to their mission and culture amidst reform
  • The ways in which partnerships can support and promote organisational values
  • The question: Can culture drive the market?

The aim is to provoke organisations to reflect upon their own mission; identify their non-negotiable values; and explore practical ways these can be sustained in the new market environment.

Two Case Studies that will be shared on the day include

1. Bubup Wilam Early Learning Aboriginal Child and Family Centre

Providing an overview of:

  • Where the idea for the service originated from
  • What the Aboriginal Early Years Partnership had to achieve to see it a reality
  • What barriers they experienced and what strategies they used to overcome these
  • How they kept culture at the centre of what they were doing
  • What it looks like now and what are their hopes for the future

2. Melbourne City Mission will explore ways to engage and build partnerships

Providing an overview of:

  • How MCM and Aborigines Advancement League built a partnership and the driving factors behind it
  • Cultural considerations and critical steps in developing the partnership
  • The ways in which the partnership supports organisational mission and values
  • Market opportunities created by the partnership
