Event description

Description

This program is suitable for all ages.

Connect with your community and hold a Neighbour Day event during March. Join us for the official launch of Neighbour Day, straight after Gungahlin Library's regular Story Time.

Neighbour Day is Australia’s annual celebration of community, encouraging people to connect with those who live in their neighbourhood. Whether through a cuppa, a picnic in the park, or a message of support; Neighbour Day is the perfect opportunity to say thanks for being a great neighbour and for being there to lend a hand.

Our special guests include: Jodie Griffiths-Cook, Children & Young People Commissioner, and Kenny the Koala. Neighbourhood Watch will also present their 2018 Good Neighbour Award.

The principal aim of Neighbour Day is to build better relationships with the people who live around us, especially the elderly and vulnerable. Neighbours are important because good relationships with others can transform communities. Social connection also makes us feel better as it helps prevent loneliness, isolation and depression. Neighbour Day brings together like-minded people, resources, and organisations to grow stronger, well connected communities. And make us all feel better about the world!

The theme for Neighbour Day 2018 is: The importance of a supportive neighbourhood for children and young people.

Neighbour Day is managed by Relationships Australia, and is proudly supported by Libraries ACT, Justice and Community Services, the ACT Human Rights Commission, Neighbourhood Watch ACT, Northside Community Service, Communities@Work, ACT Policing, Woden Community Service and the Suburban Land Agency.

All programs are free. Bookings required.
