  • Logan: Monday, 26 March 2018 (Gould Adams Community Centre, Kingston)

After registering for this event through Eventbrite, you will be emailed a schedule for the day and you can pick and choose from there!

A synopsis of the different Training modules is provided below:

CALD STREAM
Morning Session

Part (1): Working with CALD communities

Understand the diversity of people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds in your region. We’ll discuss historical and cultural barriers to CALD client participation with disability services, and identify the implications and potential for NDIS and CALD Communities

Part (2): Building CALD responsiveness

Are you maximising your response to your local CALD population?

In this session we’ll reflect on your own cultural perspectives and biases. We’ll discuss proactivity, ensuring you have a strong engagement strategy in working with people with disability from CALD backgrounds. Finally, we’ll identify elements of a culturally safe organisation.

Afternoon Session

Engaging CALD Communities

Part (1): Partnering for CALD capacity

Partnering is a key component of building CALD responsiveness. This session explores the What, Who and How of partnering. We’ll discuss the key to successful partnerships and what the benefits may be around partnering in the NDIS.

Part (2): Marketing to CALD communities

Building your organisational profile amongst CALD communities requires planning and strategy. This session discusses the importance of data collection and identifies approaches and tools for marketing to people with disability from CALD backgrounds. We’ll invite discussion on current methods and work together to develop sound strategies for increased participation.

DISABILITY/NDIS STREAM

Contemporary Disability Practice

This session will explore some of the key features of current best practice in supporting people with a disability. In keeping with the philosophy of the NDIS, participants will be provided with an overview of the pillars of support that are useful for assisting people with disability to achieve social and economic participation, have choice and control in their lives and to work towards their goals. Participants will also explore how this move to individualised, person centred supports is improving the lives of people who live with disability.

Disability and the NDIS

Delivered in partnership with QLD South NDIA, this session will provide organisations and individuals with an overview of information on the NDIS including the local market and the participant and provider pathway. For existing and new NDIS service providers, this will be an opportunity to seek information and clarifications.
