Learn to navigate with a map and compass!

The skills of reading a map and using a compass are an essential for bushwalking, and having these skills means relying less on your phone and being stuck when it runs out of battery or loses signal.

In this 2 hour session, we cover a range of topics that will give you the basics of how to navigate through the bush. This is a great afternoon to come along, learn the skills, then practice them in a fun way. We will cover a range of topics including:

- Map basics such as contours, features, legend, scale, north.
- Map orientation.
- Compass basics such as bezel, baseplate, bearings, arrows
- Obtaining a bearing and magnetic declination
- Following a bearing
- Attack points and using features

WE THEN HEAD OUTSIDE AND PRACTICE THE KNOWLEDGE WITH SOME SHORT GAMES - USING YOUR NEW SKILLS - YIKES!!

This is a two hour session with about 1.5hrs of theory then some practice.

This a hands on, fun session where you can ask any question you like, spend the time on the things you want to know and use the skills you have learnt outside. We have a training room available if the weather is poor, we'll provide all your equipment, tea/coffee and answer all your questions.

Close to Alphington Station or plenty of parking nearby.
