Navigating aged care can be tricky. People are often unaware of how to begin their aged care journey, and finding information on how to access, change and update services is not always easy.
The Navigating the Aged Care System Webinar Series provides practical information about Australian Government subsidised aged care services, including how to access these services and where to find the information you need make informed decisions. The webinars are intended to be conversational and interactive with panellists taking questions throughout.
Webinar 3, includes two parts that will both be held on 7th August 2019, with a half hour break in between. An ACAT assessor will join OPAN Educator, Maree Montgomery on the panel for both parts of the webinar.
Part 1 (2:00pm-2:30pm AEST) Overview of aged care needs assessments
You will learn about:
- What's involved in an assessment
- Where assessments take place and the importance of having someone with you
- Who undertakes the assessment: ACAT or Regional Assessment Service (RAS)
- Development of support plans
- Notification of assessment outcome
Webinar 3, Part 2 (3:00pm-3:30pm AEST) Understanding the two types of assessments: home support and comprehensive
You will learn about:
- Home Support Assessment for basic support in the home conducted by RAS
- Comprehensive Assessment for complex care in the home or care in an aged care home conducted by ACAT
OPAN is a national network of services funded by the Australian Government’s National Aged Care Advocacy Program (NACAP) to deliver independent information, education and advocacy in support of older people and their representatives to address issues related to Commonwealth funded aged care services. In addition, OPAN Members deliver elder abuse prevention and advocacy support under an agreed national framework. OPAN consists of nine Members who provide frontline advocacy services, one from each state and territory and two in the Northern Territory.
