Navigating the 24 hour city

Inner Melbourne continues to grow and thrive as a popular night time destination. The forum will bring together thinkers in public space and personal navigation technology to explore how to celebrate, develop, and contribute to the navigation of people through Melbourne at night. The forum will explore ways to enhance and contribute to a healthy, safe, and enjoyable experience, and consequently contribute to the City’s growth and vitality.

The forum will:
- present the context of the 24 hour city and the role such vitality plays in the knowledge economy
- discuss the design of public space to support safety and liveliness
- present a prototype mobile web tool that has been developed by RMIT and RSAGIM that can make it easier for people to navigate their city easily and safely at night. This smartphone application can provide access to quick and accurate information for people visiting Melbourne venues at night.
- look at technologies of live data sourcing to provide integrated travel, amenity information and analytics and how they might inform the way we design our future public spaces.
- involve participants in feedback on navigating the 24 hour city using smart phone technology

Hosted by RMIT University and RSAGIM
