Event description
Nature journaling amongst eucalypts and a Flying Fox colony on the banks of Birrarung/the Yarra River.

About this Event

Pick up a pencil and notebook, and discover the eucalypt woodlands of Yarra Bend in a new way. The practice of drawing or writing in response to nature (nature journaling) sharpens your observation skills while also allowing you a quiet, relaxing experience immersed in nature.

Worried that you can’t draw or write? No problem! This workshop will take you through beginner exercises that will show you that anyone can write and anyone can draw.

Paula Peeters is an ecologist, artist and writer who has been studying, drawing and writing about nature for most of her life. This session will include the identification of some eucalypts and their relatives, a discussion of their ecology and evolution, and the creation of your own nature journal pages using colour materials.

Please note, this workshop is aimed at ages 15 years and up, but interested kids 10 years and older are welcome if they are accompanied by an adult.

What to bring

  • Unlined notebook
  • pencil and/or permanent ink fineliner pen
  • chair or rug to sit on
  • Dress for outdoors, e.g. hat, sunscreen, insect repellent if needed, sturdy shoes.

Paula will supply colour art materials to try on the day, and lined paper for writing
