Description

The role of the workplace in a vibrant society is paramount. Those responsible for the health and wellbeing of their workforce face many challenges.

This forum will share a best practice approach to physical and mental health in the workplace by exploring a whole of person approach. Attendees will hear from leading industry experts and can expect to be empowered to build environments where people are safe, productive and inspired.

Darren Black, CEO OzHelp Foundation
Workplace Mental Health – trends and best practice models of prevention and intervention.

Darren is a former Army Officer and UN Peacekeeper who transitioned from the military to community sector leadership in 2001. He is a graduate of Melbourne Business School and Harvard, and the former CEO of Outward Bound Australia and the NSW PCYC. His passion for improving health and wellbeing and reducing risk of suicide took him to OzHelp in 2018.

Mr Greg Jones, WorkSafe ACT Workplace Safety Commissioner
The strategic direction for workplace safety in the ACT.

Mr Jones brings to his role a wealth of experience in senior public sector management roles and a commitment to community health and safety through his 25 years of regulatory experience in the ACT.

Carolyn Parish, Ampcontrol Health and Wellbeing Specialist
Developing sustainable and effective mental health programs

Carolyn Parish, has over 15 years’ experience specialising in occupational health, wellbeing and injury management within the manufacturing and mining sectors. A fully qualified and practising suicide intervention and prevention trainer, Carolyn’s development of sustainable and effective mental health programs for various businesses, including Rio Tinto and Glencore, lead to her being named ‘2018 WHS Young Leader of the Year’ at the 2018 Hunter Safety Awards.

Jessica Hickman, Author and founder of Bullyology
Driving change from experience

Following Jessica’s three-year personal ordeal with workplace bullying, she empowered herself to become a dynamic activist and advocate in the field of bullying, mental health and positive relationships. She is the founder of Bullyology, a professional and powerful anti-bullying program. Jessica will share her inspiring story of courage and resilience.

Benjamin Farinazzo, Invictus Games Gold Medalist and Mental Health Ambassador
A journey of courage, hope and the unconquerable human spirit

Ben is a proud father, husband and Australian. He is a former Australian Army Officer and successfully transitioned to hold several senior executive, CEO and Company Director roles.
On Australia Day 2015, Ben woke up in hospital to find himself in a living nightmare. He was suffering from significant physical and psychological wounds and describes this period of his life as ‘walking through the valley of the shadow of death’. As he lay there unable to move he made a choice to return to life. Three years later he represented Australia in indoor rowing and powerlifting at Invictus Games Sydney 2018.
