Event description

Description

Bayside Council is partnering with Planet Ark to celebrate National Tree Day on Sunday 30 July with a community tree planting at Scott Park.

The site is environmentally significant as it contains the Endangered Ecological Communities of Coastal Saltmarsh and Swamp Oak Floodplain Forest. It also forms an important biodiversity corridor and shorebird habitat along Bado Berong Creek.

As part of the ongoing Bayside Council Natural Areas Restoration Plan and a grant received from the NSW Office of Environment & Heritage, over 800 native plants will be planted on the day. This will significantly increase the biodiversity and ecological sustainability of the area and provide additional wildlife habitat in the park.

All tools will be provided and participants are encouraged to bring gloves and wear appropriate clothing and footwear on the day. A barbecue will he held after the tree planting.

National Tree Day is Australia’s largest tree-planting and environmental education event where each year over 300,000 people participate in events at over 3,500 sites. Since Planet Ark launched National Tree Day in 1996, more than three and a half million participants have planted 22 million native trees, shrubs and grasses to enhance and protect Australians natural environment.
