Event description

Description

In an Australian first, the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator is holding a dedicated heavy vehicle access seminar for council engineers. The seminar will provide road access decision-makers in councils with comprehensive information on how to manage their local freight tasks.

There will also be a field trip to industry sites to give attendees a better understanding of the unique elements of moving oversize/overmass loads and cranes, which often have short lead times and need access approval quickly.

When:
Monday 22 October and Tuesday 23 October 2018

Times: Day one - 10.00am to 5.00pm. Day two - 9.00am to 3.00pm

Where: NHVR Head Office, 76 Skyring Terrace Newstead, BRISBANE 4006

Cost: FREE. Attendees will need to cover their own travel and accommodation expenses.

Program Overview:

- Day one:

  • How to use the full options of the Heavy Vehicle National Law to best manage local freight tasks, reduce red tape for industry and reduce administrative burden on councils
  • IPWEA session - new CORSaMS suite of services to help fleet operators to meet their new COR legislative obligations
  • How councils can reduce truck trips on their roads by encouraging greater take-up of the superior productivity and safety features of the heavy vehicles approved under the NHVR Performance Based Standards scheme
  • Field trip on a bus to a crane operator and an Oversize Overmass operator to get a better understanding of the needs of these unique industry sectors
  • Return to NHVR and close out day one with a networking session.

- Day two

  • Why good access is important to keeping communities thriving – a number of industry sectors will speak on their needs and how we can work together to keep communities strong
  • Showcase of the good things some councils have done to manage their freight task
  • how to get the most out of the NHVR access portal in managing heavy vehicle access applications and freight planning, including some new improvements being released soon
  • priority actions workshop – what am I going to do to improve access on my council’s road network?
  • seminar wrap up

This is a national event. Some people have asked if this seminar will happen in other locations. This is the first time the NHVR has done something like this and it would need to be evaluated before considering other locations. So this may be your only chance to get this intensive two day experience.

If you want to catch up with a NHVR subject specialist before or after the seminar to get extra value out of attending, the NHVR can arrange this.

To enable a large number of councils to attend, places are initially limited to two attendees per organisation.

For more information, or to request additional attendees or a separate meeting with a NHVR subject specialist, please contact NHVR Stakeholder Specialist Tim Hansen at tim.hansen@nhvr.gov.au, (07) 3309 8601 or

0419 729 399.
