National Gallery of Victoria Kids on Tour @ Pakenham Library - Drop in!
Overview
NGV Kids on Tour is back at Pakenham for 2026! We are so excited to again be a host venue for this wonderful program.
During the last week of holidays, we will have some of the activities available if you drop in between 11am Jan 21 and 2pm Jan 27. There will be a range of activities designed in collaboration between NGV Kids and artists and designers, including:
ACTIVITY TITLE: Take the Cake
ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION: Cakes are more than just sweet treats, they’re symbols of celebration, tradition and togetherness. From birthdays to cultural milestones, they mark life’s special moments.
In this activity, children can draw their own cake, using their imagination and creativity to capture memories of special occasions. Whether inspired by family traditions or decorated with icing and sprinkles, every drawing will be an expression of joy and celebration.
ACTIVITY TITLE: What's New
ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION:
Steam trains to bullet trains, rotary phones to mobile phones – so many things have changed over the years!
For this activity, children are invited to have a conversation with an adult about how everyday life has changed over the years. Together, they can share stories, compare the past and present, and draw pictures that show what they’ve learned from their conversation.
This activity encourages meaningful dialogue, strengthens family connections, and helps children develop communication, listening and creative skills. It also sparks curiosity about history and the world around them.
ACTIVITY TITLE: Nature and Us by Olaf Breuning
ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION: In this set of three creative drawing activities inspired by nature, children can find out what makes a forest the perfect home for birds, insects and bugs, as well as woodland animals.
These activities are inspired by Olaf Breuning, a contemporary artist known for his playful and imaginative work, including his recent children’s exhibition Plans for the Planet: Olaf Breuning for Kids at the NGV.
Through these activities children develop observation and drawing skills, while gaining a deeper understanding of ecology and biodiversity.
ACTIVITY TITLE: Perfume in the 1700s: A trendy must-have
ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION:
In the 1700s, perfume was a big trend across Europe. People started favouring lighter, floral scents instead of the heavy perfumes that were used to cover up bad smells.
Perfume bottles became stylish accessories crafted from luxurious materials such as glass, porcelain, and silver.
Using their favourite imagery from nature, fantasy, street art, or pop culture, participants can draw their own perfume bottle, expressing their imagination and personal style.
