Advice about institutional attendance at the National Apology and related events

The National Apology is a day for people who experienced institutional child sexual abuse and their families, friends and supporters. Community consultations have made it clear that representatives from institutions in official attire risk traumatising those affected. Accordingly, institutions will not be represented at the National Apology in Canberra or the Brisbane event.

Members of institutions who wish to attend Apology events in their personal capacity as someone who experienced institutional child sexual abuse, or as a support person, are respectfully asked to not wear a uniform or any clothing that identifies their institution.
