Description

The Journal of Literature and Science is celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2018. To celebrate this milestone in literature and science research, the Cardiff ScienceHumanities Research Initiative and the JLS are delighted to announce that internationally-acclaimed scholar N. Katherine Hayles will give a lecture titled Translating and Evolving: Posthuman Intersections of Human and Machine Languages.

N. Katherine Hayles is Professor at Duke University, and is widely recognised as one of the leading international scholars of the relations between literature, science and technology. In her ground-breaking works such as How We Became Posthuman and My Mother Was a Computer Hayles identified our many and varied relationships with contemporary technologies and set the agenda for postmodern and posthuman thinking about our interactions with the digital and with artificial cognition.

The lecture will take place at Cardiff University's Colum Drive (Cathays) campus, in the Postgraduate Teaching Centre Lecture Theatre at 6pm on Tuesday May 1st. This will be preceded at 5pm by a wine reception with canapes.

Tickets for the lecture and wine reception are free. All welcome.

For directions to the location of the lecture please see: http://www.cardiff.ac.uk/visit/map (the building is named Cardiff Business School Postgraduate Teaching Centre)

We acknowledge the support from the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences' International Initiative and from Cardiff University's International Visiting Fellow Scheme.
