Event description

Description

The 21 Century has got off to a most perplexing start.

So much of what western democracy took for granted has just evaporated progress as we knew it can no longer be taken for granted it is neither linear nor inevitable.

So why are we here, where are we going next and how much can we influence it anyway?

Hear ABC's Jon Faine attempt to answer these questions

Speaker Bio

Jon Faine is well known as the articulate and challenging host of his own current affairs radio programme on 774 Melbourne.

His background is extensive and varied and includes being admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor (Supreme Court Victoria). He went on to practise law for seven years and subsequently moved in to the media, hosting a range of radio programmes. Whether it be politics, law, arts or sport, Jon Faine investigates the issues and stories affecting Melbourne now with energy and vigour all without taking life too seriously.

Jon Faine is joined by a regular co-host on and special guests and, for a leisurely hour, on 774 ABC listeners are treated to a 'round the dinner table' style discussion that, like any animated conversation amongst friends, can and does lead anywhere. Known for his provocative and probing debate, quick wit and willingness to ask the stickiest of questions, Jon Faine delivers thought-provoking radio.

Jon Faine entered radio broadcasting in 1989 to produce and present Radio National's Law Report.
