Description

Join us to Celebrate Two Years of Success at Sanon

From a dusty old beer garden in Bagan to a thriving restaurant and tasty food destination, Sanon quickly became a must-visit restaurant in Bagan. We are incredibly proud of our students, training staff and MYDI team who are dedicated to creating sustainable change for Myanmar’s youth.

This charity dinner is specifically aimed at assisting in providing funding towards the construction of a new and expanded Student Accommodation Facility to properly house our growing number of students.

About Sanon is a Hospitality Training Restaurant

Sanon is training restaurant and for-profit social enterprise established by the Myanmar Youth Development Institute (Australian and Myanmar) and operating from Bagan, Central Myanmar. Sanon creates sustainable opportunities for the youth of Myanmar in the food and hospitality industry.

One of the consequences of the rapid change occuring in Myanmar is that it has experienced a 30% increase in visitors to the country. By focusing our attention to the tourism market, our primary objective is to secure opportunities for the young people of Myanmar, in particularly, marginalised and disadvantaged youth.

By providing the right kind of support we can break the cycle of poverty, unemployment, homelessness, skills shortage and associated hardship. Our vision is to empower a generation of young people to become Myanmar's industry leaders in hospitality.

Now in its second year, Sanon trains 30 students each year to be “work-ready” in the areas of food service, kitchen basics around food preparation and cooking, occupational health and safety, catering, as well as competency in English.

Each students completes a one year intensive training course at Sanon followed by work placement. MYDI social workers monitor their working life for a further two years. During their training, the students are provided with accommodation, work clothing, and all training.

The students experience all aspects of restaurant life whilst being directly supervised by our experienced trainers. Students selection is organised through local social workers with who deal directly with the youth and ther families. Students are selected from disadvantaged areas of youth in Myanmar. Most have had little formal education as we know it, and most have not worked in a paid job.
