Brisbane City Council and Brisbane City State Emergency Service are working together to deliver free, two-hour classes aimed at building resilience and disaster preparedness for grades five and six.

My Resilient Schools will be delivered in terms three and four and is designed to complement the grades five and six core curriculum studies on natural hazards.

Trained SES and Council officers will conduct the classes at schools on Mondays and Thursdays during school hours. The sessions will run in terms three and four in the lead up to storm season.

What you need to know about the My Resilient Schools program

  • The program is available to all primary schools within the Brisbane local government area
  • The program is coordinated by Brisbane City Council
  • The program is delivered by SES Volunteers
  • The program is free
  • The program will be delivered at your school on either a Monday or a Thursday
  • The program runs for two hours
  • The program is available for grades five and/or six
  • The program complements the Australian Curriculum Geography for grades five and six
  • Children will learn about the natural hazards that are possible in the area and will be shown strategies for preventing and responding to these hazards

The My Resilient Schools program was developed by Brisbane City State Emergency Services unit and Brisbane City Council with feedback from primary schools and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services to provide a standardised service to the community.
