Coronavirus update & online presentation pack

Our face to face presentation by the State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers will continue in classrooms once COVID safe practices can be fully applied to the program.

Brisbane City Council and Brisbane City State Emergency Service are working together to deliver, two 40 minute sessions aimed at building resilience and disaster preparedness for grades five and six.

The My Resilient Schools program is designed to complement the grades five and six core curriculum studies on natural hazards.

Trained SES volunteers and Council officers will conduct the classes in school on Monday and Thursday mornings from 9-10.30am. The sessions will be delivered in the lead up to storm season.

What you need to know about the My Resilient Schools program

The program:

  • is available to all primary schools within the Brisbane local government area
  • is coordinated by Brisbane City Council
  • is delivered by trained SES Volunteers 
  • is free
  • will be delivered at your school on either a Monday or a Thursday
  • two 40 minute sessions
  • is available for grades five and six
  • complements the Australian Curriculum - Geography, Science, and Civics and Citizenship for grades five and six
  • allows students to learn about the natural hazards that may occur in their local area; the facilitators will help the students to develop strategies to prepare for, and respond to, these hazards.

The My Resilient Schools program was developed by Brisbane City State Emergency Services Unit and Brisbane City Council with feedback from the Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience, primary schools and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services to provide a standardised resource to the community.
