Event description

Description

Rainbow Network and Minus18 present a special performance of

My Other Closet the Cabaret

for LGBTIQ+ young people.

A one man’s true-life account of his journey to domestic violence survivor. Through powerful storytelling and re-workings of classic pop songs, it dispels the myths surrounding domestic violence, especially in same sex and gender diverse (LGBTQ) relationships. One part entertainment, one part education and awareness campaign, this production gives powerful and moving insight to the causes of domestic violence and how to end it.

This is an opportunity for young people to explore domestic violence from a queer perspective, what the signs of an unhealthy relationship might look like, and how to intervene if you think someone you know is in an abusive relationship.

Content Warning: This show contains content relating to abuse and domenstic violence. Youth Workers and a quiet space will be available for anyone who requires support.

“A very personal tale of domestic violence… a vehicle for healing… a ray of hope for those who may still be in the thick of an abusive relationship”
Cec Busby – Gay News Network (MCV)

“Moving, very real and somehow uplifting at the same time... You've gotta love the power of song!”
Lyn Eales - Brophy Family Services

“Courageous and wonderful”
Rebekah Pozega - Family Violence Counsellor
