Event description

Description

My New Neighbour Stories explore what it means to build inclusive and welcoming spaces from the ground up, through personal connection and storytelling. Together with our diaspora and migrant communities, these community conversations profile stories that share the journey to inclusion and show what it takes to make new neighbours in our community welcome, some of whom are refugees.

Join Shankar, a former Tamil refugee from Sri Lanka, and Kavisha, of Burmese and Italian ancestry, for our very first New Neighbour story. Both have fascinating and uplifting stories to tell through spoken word and music, offering rare and special insights of their journeys to a new life.

A partnership between Goldfields Libraries, Amnesty International and Loddon Campaspe Multicultural Services.

About Shankar Kasynathan: Shankar resides in Castlemaine and presents on community radio. He is a former Tamil refugee from Sri Lanka, an Amnesty International Refugee Campaign Coordinator, advisor to Welcoming Australia and a non-executive director at Loddon Campaspe Multicultural Services, Bendigo.

About Kavisha Mazzella: Kavisha is the daughter of a Burmese refugee and lives in Castlemaine. She is an ARIA award winner, singing in both English and Italian and has performed and taught at national music festivals and abroad. Her uplifting stories embrace humour, poetry and social justice, presented beautifully in an unforgettable voice.

BOOKINGS REQUIRED.
