Description

Melbourne Women's Fund is delighted to welcome Krystian Seibert to speak at our Conversation event at Evans and Partners, in Melbourne.

The event topic: Using Money as Medicine – Philanthropy’s Role as a Force for Social Justice

Krystian says, "In democracies like Australia, we are witnessing rising concern about inequality, with many commentators calling for a complete rethink of our economic and social systems. At the same time, some prominent critics such as Anand Giridharadas in his New York Times best seller 'Winners Take All', argue that philanthropy is actually part of the problem. Although critics may lack some nuance, there are some important lessons to be learned from such criticisms."

In this talk Krystian will explore some of these challenges and seek to unpack what they mean for philanthropy in Australia and in particular gender-focused philanthropy.

Krystian is a researcher, educator, board member and advocate for philanthropy, the NFP sector and public policy. He is an Industry Fellow at the Centre for Social Impact at Swinburne University and was previously the Advocacy & Insight Manager at Philanthropy Australia, the peak body for philanthropy in Australia.

He is a frequent commentator with his writing featuring in publications such as The Age, The Australian, The Conversation, the Stanford Social Innovation Review, Alliance Magazine and Pro Bono Australia News.
