Registration of Interest – Regional Accelerator Music Program (RAMP)
“Musician and Venue Development Workshop”


Following the recent successful Whyalla RAMP Discovery Roundtables, the Department of Innovation and Skills and Music Development Office would like to invite you to register your interest in attending the follow-up Musician and Venue Development Workshop.

RAMP is a South Australian Government initiative to increase live music in regional South Australia. Please visit to find out more about RAMP and the Outcomes of the Discovery Roundtables.

About the Workshop

This FREE one-day workshop is aimed at both musicians and new (or existing) venue operators to improve the way they work together to increase live music activation.

The Workshop will give musicians an opportunity to learn more about the music business, marketing and production. Venue operators will to learn how to successfully engage artists and run profitable events.

Workshop Date: Tuesday, 10 September 2019
Whyalla Left Hand Club (Lefties), 14 Dick St, Whyalla
Start Time: 5:00pm for 5:30pm start
End Time: 9:00pm (Catering will be provided)
Costs: Free, complements of South Australian Government

Workshop Facilitators

The workshop will be facilitated by Nick O’Connor and Ben Smith from the Northern Sound System (NSS). Both facilitators are successful musicians with qualifications in music recording and production and experienced in operating multiple music venues, bars, restaurants and Night clubs.

Workshop delivery will be interactive and engage participants to actively participate with examples and case study scenarios.

Workshop Topics

Musician Topics

  • Promoting your act – social media and local networks
  • Legal obligations and venue contracts
  • Stagecraft and setting for a gig (Sound, lighting, staging)

Venue Operator Topics

  • Promoting your venue through social media and local networks
  • Getting approvals (Councils and liquor licensing)
  • Safely and profitably engaging local musicians
  • Safe and effective staging and event management
  • Funding support for staffing and events

Format of Workshops

  • 10.00am -10.45am Musician’s Workshop
  • 10.45am -11.00am Break morning Tea
  • 11.00am - 12.00pm Musician’s Workshop
  • 12.00pm - 12.45pm Lunch Break
  • 12.45pm - 2.00pm Combined Venue Operator /Musician workshop intersection between artist and venue
  • 2.00pm - 2.15pm Break afternoon tea
  • 2.15pm - 4.00pm Venue Operator workshop


Spaces this workshop are limited so please register your interest early.

You will be asked to complete a short survey once your registration has been confirmed.

Workshop facilitators will then be in touch to discuss your specific interests, and to ensure workshop content is tailored to the participants.
