Event description

Description

You're invited to a Symposium to celebrate amateur music communities in Newcastle, the Hunter and Lake Macquarie. At this event we will share findings from initial research into the role of the communities in participants’ lives: their well-being, sense of self and belonging.

The night will commence at 5.15pm with drinks and nibbles in the Conservatorium foyer.

At 6pm there will be a panel discussion on the research project and findings, interspersed with musical performances from community groups.

The groups performing are: ‘The Undeniably Noisy Project’ (Cessnock Community Choir); LakeMacUkestra; Novatones Harmony Chorus; Blackalls Swing Band; Newkestra and Toronto Brass Band.

The symposium will be introduced by Professor Jane Davidson, University of Melbourne, Dr Helen English, University of Newcastle and Sarah Monk, University of Newcastle. The night will have a short interval and will conclude at 8.15pm with drinks, supper and an opportunity for open conversation.

This is a free event but please register for catering purposes.
