Event description
Be one of the first to visit the Chau Chak Wing Museum, Sydney’s newest museum of art, science, history and ancient cultures.

About this Event

Sydney’s newest museum brings some of Australia's most significant artistic, scientific, cultural and archaeological collections to a stunning, purpose-built space. Designed to share the University of Sydney’s vast collections with the broader public, the Chau Chak Wing Museum features expansive gallery spaces, including a 6.5m high temporary gallery, dedicated study rooms, an auditorium, and a café on the terrace.

At opening the museum will present 18 new exhibitions held over four levels, exploring ancient and contemporary cultures through artworks, artefacts and diverse perspectives. The Egyptian Galleries unravel our fascination with the land of the Pharaohs, through precious artefacts and cutting-edge science. Gululu Dhuwala Djalkiri is a major showcase of art from eastern Arnhem Land and reveals 100 years of Yolŋu knowledge sharing through painting and sculpture. The Museum’s inaugural contemporary art project is an immersive installation by artist Daniel Boyd, titled Pediment/Impediment. The most intriguing bird, mammal, fish and shell specimens are on show in Natural Selections, while in Roman Spectres ghostly faces recorded in stone are reanimated through stories of life in ancient the Roman world.
