Event description

Description

Please join us for a beautiful breakfast celebrating International Women's Day. This year's NAIDOC theme is 'Because of Her We Can', and highlights the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women across family, community and society. On IWD this year, we want to celebrate women, our mothers, daughters, aunties, and friends, and the positive contribution they make to our lives.

Attendees will have the pleasure of listening to Dr. Lynette Riley, our guest speaker for the morning. Dr. Riley is a Wiradjuri & Gamilaroi woman from Dubbo and Moree; she is a Senior Lecturer and Leader of Indigenous Strategy in the Faculty of Education & Social Work, The University of Sydney. Lynette has completed her PhD thesis through ACU on “Conditions of Academic Success for Aboriginal Students’.

Gumbayngirr woman, Hazel Vale, will also be speaking and sharing with us her insights into working within her home community of Armidale to create positive social change and better outcomes for Aboriginal women, men and children. Hazel has been working for Murawin through Batiba Guwiyal for the past two years and has made such a difference to many people in her community.

Funds raised from this event will go towards providing educational opportunities for Aboriginal children and young people and in Batiba Guwiyal projects.
