Multicultural Cooking Class
Event Information
About this event
Welcome to a real culinary extravaganza - a fun and hands on cooking class. If you live in Sydney, you are spoiled for choice with the wide variety of cuisines available at restaurants. Our culinary classes provide an opportunity to try something different. Each class will be dedicated to one of the world cuisines such as Azerbaijani, Georgian, Russian and many others.
We can help you to learn how to cook new dishes which you have probably never tried before. Culinary skills are always useful, because to feed loved ones with delicious dishes is priceless.
In the next class we will be cooking Elmali Kurabiye (apple and walnut biscuits). Qurabiya (Kurabiye) is a shortbread-type biscuit, usually made with ground almonds. Versions are found in most countries of the Arab world, with various different forms and recipes. Kurabiye appears in the Ottoman cuisine in the 15th century. There is some debate about the origin of the words. Some give no other origin for the Turkish word kurabiye than Turkish, while others have given Arabic or Persian.
Ingredients for Elmali Kurabiye:
3 cups flour
50 g butter room temperature
100 g margarine
1 cup caster sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 egg
10 g baking powder
For filling:
3 - 4 large apples
3 tbsp sugar
1,5 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup of crushed walnuts
